About Jonathan Aufray and Early Life:

My name is Jonathan Aufray, I was born in 1985 in France. Between 2004 and 2023, I lived in 7 countries (France, the US, the UK, Ireland, Spain, Australia and Taiwan). During my career, I worked with entrepreneurs from 100+ countries. Even if I have a Master’s degree, I honestly don’t think degrees matter much when it comes to business. I don’t use anything I’ve learned during my college years. In fact, when I hire people, I don’t care about their degrees. I focus more on their experience, attitude and mindset.

Mission and Vision of Growth Hackers:

At Growth Hackers, we help small and medium-sized businesses grow by crafting bespoke digital marketing strategies. We go beyond mere consulting, we actually implement our strategies and, therefore, take ownership and responsibility of the results. We don’t like vanity metrics such as likes, followers or impressions. We rather focus on KPIs that move the needle for a business such as qualified traffic, lead generation, customer acquisition and retention.

Company Performance in 2023:

Overall, it was a good year. Even if 2023 started on a bumpy path because the whole industry was focusing on AI, the fade kinda slowed down a bit and our company restarted to grow from Q2.

Standing Out in the Competitive Market:

First, we do what we preach. A lot of marketing agencies will sell services like SEO or social media management but when you look at their own stats, it feels like they haven’t worked on those channels themselves. When that’s the case, it means that either they don’t really know how to handle those channels or they don’t actually believe in what they’re selling.

Second, we only accept clients when we know we can deliver results and when we feel there’s a fit between our 2 companies. Because we’re results-driven, if we don’t think we can reach their goals, better to not work with them. Otherwise, it will be bad for them but also damageful for our reputation.

Third, as mentioned above, we create custom growth plans depending on our clients’ product, market, ideal customers, capabilities and goals while most agencies have a 1-size fits all kind of approach.

Building Teamwork and Unity:

I strongly believe in not having a fixed company culture but rather improving it over time. The goal is to ask feedback to your employees and ask them for ideas. By implementing some of their ideas, you may find out that some of them work really well. Humility is important and as a leader, you need to know that you can’t come up with all the ideas yourself.

Maintaining Work-Life Balance:

I separate my work life and my personal life completely. For instance, I don’t hire friends, I don’t participate to entrepreneur meetups in my free time and I try to speak very little about work when I am with my family or friends. Also, I don’t check my emails during weekends. It helps me recharge the batteries.

Tips for Start-ups:

There are so many tips to give but here are a few:

– Adopt a lean startup methodology approach. Don’t build something in your garage for 9 months without testing the market.

– Do not hesitate to ask for help.

– Be resilient. There will be ups and downs. When there are ups, everything seems easy but when there are downs, that’s when you need to be strong and stay determined.
