Background and Early Ventures
I’ve been around in this region for about six years now, working on a mix of consulting and full-time roles. My last full-time role at noon.com was really interesting. I got to build a Recommerce business from the ground up for the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt.
Before that, I was mostly involved in e-commerce startups where there was a lot to be done from scratch. This really laid the groundwork for my own entrepreneurial journey. On the education front, I have a background in computer science engineering and an MBA, which really helped me understand how technology is layered today to build fascinating things and the nuances of running a successful business.
Mission and Vision
Our main goal at Revent is pretty simple – we want to be the most trusted destination in the MENA region for anyone looking to buy or sell used electronics. We’re all about making sure people can trust what they’re getting, and we’re really committed to doing this in a way that’s good for the planet. We want to change the way people think about used electronics, showing that it’s not just smart for their wallets, but also great for the environment.
Company’s Performance
This year’s been really great for Revent! We’ve grown a lot and expanded our reach, especially with our move into Saudi Arabia. Our tech has gotten better, and we’re really making our mark in the region. Plus, we graduated from Techstars, which is a big deal as it being the best globally, and even won a few business competitions, like the one from Etisalat. Oh, and we were named one of the future 100 companies by the Govt of UAE and got a chance to participate and graduate from MISK foundation accelerator run by the Govt of Saudi Arabia. So yeah, it’s been a pretty exciting year for us.
Market Differentiation
Revent differentiates itself through a relentless commitment to trust and quality in the pre-owned electronics market. Our proprietary technology, Truecheck, guarantees high-quality pre-owned products in the hands of our customers, consistently. Additionally, our experience of having built a successful Recommerce business in the region with noon.com sets us apart as a team.
Building Team Unity
We build trust and unity in our team by prioritizing transparent communication, encouraging innovation, and offering growth opportunities. We maintain a focus on work-life balance, set achievable, yet demanding goals, and prioritize mental well-being to cultivate a healthy and motivated team.
Work-Life Balance
Well, it was tough in the initial days. My co-founder Dhananjay is a fitness freak, and he’s kind of rubbed off on me. Over the years, I’ve found some morning routines that work really well for me. I focus on setting goals that make sense, looking after my mental health, and making sure I take breaks from work. Having support from family and friends is a big help. Plus, doing stuff outside of work that I love really keeps me energized and inspired.
Tips for Start-ups
For start-ups aspiring to follow a similar path, I advise focusing on solving real problems with a deep understanding of them. Ensure your product addresses a genuine need. Be adaptable, continuously learn, and surround yourself with a strong support net (of friends and family). Remember, true innovation and success often lies outside your comfort zone.
