In this interview, Dr. Christina Rahm, a distinguished entrepreneur, scientist, and author, shares her inspiring journey of leading groundbreaking ventures in health, wellness, and sustainability. As the chairwoman of The ROOT Brands® and DRC Ventures, Dr. Rahm has made significant strides in improving lives globally. Through her innovative work, she has managed to balance her scientific expertise with entrepreneurial leadership, impacting over 220,000 customers across 89 countries. In the following conversation, Dr. Rahm reflects on her early life, career transitions, leadership experiences, and the principles that guide her success.

Exploring Dr. Rahm’s Journey: Early Life and Education

Curious about Dr. Rahm’s background, we asked her to share a bit about her early life and educational journey.

Dr. Rahm: I grew up in a small town in Southeast Missouri.  The town of about 10,000 population revolved around school, sports, church, and friends. After high school, I attended the University of South Alabama, where I received my undergraduate degree.  Subsequently, I’ve earned numerous Master’s and Doctorate degrees and certifications in Nanotechnology, Pharmaceutical Management, Nutrition, Education, Psychology, and Philosophy.

Passion for Innovation: What Drives Dr. Rahm?

As a global entrepreneur and scientist, we asked Dr. Rahm what fuels her passion for innovation across so many fields.

Dr. Rahm: I believe I was put here to heal people.  I believe it’s my mission to provide solutions to help people as much as possible. With my understanding of what I’ve personally been through and what I’ve experienced, I want to use that knowledge to be of service to others. And that’s really what continues to drive me.

Further, I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit. I have started many companies over the years.  However, the two companies in which I am Chairman of the Board for presently, The ROOT Brands® and DRC Ventures, are different in terms of timing and vision.  Born amid the global pandemic, The ROOT Brands® faced the unique challenge of establishing itself during a period of fear and uncertainty. Launched in February 2020, the company saw an opportunity to empower individuals seeking support for their health and well-being. Despite its young age, The ROOT Brands® has already impacted over 220,000 customers and continues to expand its global reach.

The core philosophy of both DRC Ventures, and The ROOT Brands® is that we provide positive solutions for people, pets, and the whole planet. It is about rediscovering our inner selves, and nurturing our minds, souls, and hearts while taking care of our physical, mental, and spiritual health.

Writing and Science: The Synergy Between the Two

As an author, we were curious how Dr. Rahm’s role as a writer complements her work in both science and business.

Dr. Rahm: I have authored seven books, including the “Cure the Causes” book series, an inspirational book titled, “Be Your Own Inspiration,” and my newest book on Military Science.  Many aspects of my writing coincide with my teachings. I believe my role as an author compliments my work in both science and business, and vice versa as it’s all about learning to better expand my scientific knowledge.

Challenges in Science and Entrepreneurship: A Woman’s Perspective

Reflecting on her career, we asked Dr. Rahm about the challenges she has faced as a woman leading in science and entrepreneurship, and how she overcame them.

Dr. Rahm: Primarily, as most women have encountered, there are often gender-related barriers. I began my career as a grant researcher in the pharmaceutical industry and then transitioned to multiple entrepreneurial roles in which I had multiple successes and failures, in business, along the way. The pharmaceutical industry was male-dominated, at the time. Just as patent ownership in this country is also male-dominated, with women only hosting 10% of patents across the US, however, I have been awarded multiple patents for innovation. So, yes, my career has consistently been confronted with gender-related barriers.

Guiding Principles: Leadership and Decision-Making

Lastly, we asked Dr. Rahm about the core principle she’s adopted over the years that guides her decision-making process.

Dr. Rahm: Leaders need to be highly visionary, but also pragmatic. To be a pragmatic leader, women can be more organized, which allows the capacity to “run a tight ship,” operationally, and financially. Being a visionary leader also means having the capacity to paint a picture and effectively share that vision. Finally, I believe women who can encapsulate leadership styles with professionalism, while combining empathy are capable of increased success and happiness.
