Police Clash with Protesters in Karachi After Hezbollah Leader’s Death

The Israel Defense Forces announced that top Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah was killed in airstrikes in Beirut. He was targeted on September 27 at Hezbollah’s main headquarters in the southern suburbs. Following this news, Hezbollah supporters held protests across Pakistan, waving flags and chanting slogans.

On September 29, some protesters tried to storm the U.S. consulate in Karachi, which led to clashes. Police stepped in to stop them from reaching the consulate during the demonstrations. Protesters threw stones and shouted “Death to America” while holding Hezbollah flags and posters of Nasrallah. Authorities reported that seven police officers were injured and needed hospital treatment. The pro-Iran Shi’ite party Majlis Wahadatul Muslimeen organized a rally with around 3,000 people in attendance.
